Time for God:
Accommodating Religious Free Exercise through Released-Time
Education
An overview of the issue produced by the
Family Resource Council.
Religion is a worldview or set of beliefs through which one
interprets all of reality, the lens through which one views
the world. The Latin root of the term implies that religion
serves as the binding center of an individual’s entire
being.
The modern compartmentalization and privatization of
religion, which leads to a divorce between spirituality and
other aspects of life, is a breach of this original sense.
The current notion that religion can be separated from the
rest of life has led to a general acceptance of the idea
that religion should stop at the schoolhouse door.
